There’s an interesting
href="http://diveintomark.org/archives/2002/10/03.html#when_an_engineer_flaps_his_wings">discussion
about the changes Google has apparently made to their PageRank system, that
have caused concern among the “people who care about search rankings” community.
I don’t count myself as one, but I’ve always been interested in the heuristics
and technology that Google uses to achieve their sub-second indexes.
Apparently, you can no longer googlebomb, but can still googlewack; Spam
pages are appearing with more frequency in search results; and persons who
used to be in the top spot for name searches are now simply in the top 10.
By the way, Mark Pilgrim, whose site I point to, is an amazing and generous
author who has written a number of great, free online treatises ranging from
web accessibility to J2EE and python (a favorite of mine). Look for his works
listed on the site.
