Garageband

Kovach, my learned gearhead friend, found me a great deal on an Evolution MK-361c, a MIDI keyboard controller that I’ve been using non-stop with Garageband since I received it last week.

Allow me to say that GB is the single greatest iApp that Apple has ever produced. It’s incredibly simply to create professional sounding music with this program and most of the samples that are distributed with the dvd sound great. It’s the music production app for the non-gearhead masses and at $49, there is nothing else like it on the market.

I think it will do for music creation what the first blogging apps did for self-expression and publication on the web. It will probably even mirror the historical quality curve that blogging produced. Which is to say that not only will there be a lot of shite music out there, there will be also be some true gems in the bunch.

My next step is to get a pickup for one of my three acoustic gee-tars: my first guitar which I got 15 years ago, a Hohner six-string recently bought for me as a gift, and a Yamaha 12-string that I picked up on consignment years ago at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago when they were still located on Armitage. Of course what I’d really love to do is get this, but I’d settle for this anyday.
