I still remember how it was to say “goodbye”:http://sotto.org/archives/2001/11/19/we_love_you_always_sweet_jack/ and even now I cannot but be moved by the thought of you closing your eyes to that larger looming world that we shared for a brief time.
But the dull longing ache that was there like a heaviness in my shoulders is gone, replaced instead with the sense that the human side of grief is simply a minute difference in tears between what we perceive as loss, and what we will later recall as the universal connection that remains for all those we touch.
For this and for showing us the way to empathy and compassion, I can only retell it: love, despite distance and time, is the language by which souls communicate. We miss you dear friend.
