A Perfectly Good Buzzword in Flames

For people who’ve been in the software/web biz a longish time, “Zeldman’s diatribe”:http://www.alistapart.com/articles/web3point0 about the moniker regurgitation cycle resonates, but only so long as it sounds like you’re spreading wisdom and not just being a jackass. My favorite spot-the-fsck-on money quote:

But ours is a medium in which, more often than not, big teams have slowly and expensively labored to produce overly complex web applications whose usability was near nil on behalf of clients with at best vague goals.

It’s simply a shame that browsers haven’t evolved and can’t be smarter than what they are at the moment: dumb terminals. Wouldn’t it be great if they were delta-aware: we could simply pass something the equivalent of a PAR hash from the original page and the browser would instantly render the necessary visual and state changes with minimal bandwidth exchange. But yes, I do realize then that’s an entirely different spec.
