Vudu Review

A review of the Vudu box. Price is still too dear for my tastes.

Not as aggro as the Smackbook. Cool nonetheless.

The OLPC Sugar UI

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007 at 12:29 am

Kind of disappointing only because they could have reinvented application state and chose to go classic.

MP3 Player Built For 2

The Daisy MP3 Open Source Project. Easily scratched mini-lcd and marketing hype not included.

Alan Wake on Quad Core 2 Duo

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006 at 5:38 pm

Although I still love them, I’m pretty much past having the time to play 1st person shooters. Still, the demo of this game is unbelievable and I covet the hardware to play this. The interesting stuff starts at 1:15.

Mouse-o a Mouse-o

Tuesday, August 2nd, 2005 at 5:28 pm

You know, “Apple’s foray (Apple’s my-tay mouse)”:http://www.apple.com/mightymouse/ into 21st century computer mouse technology is cool and all, but ever since I started using my “Evoluent”:http://www.evoluent.com/ mouse, every other mouse on the market (including Apple’s) is still shite for your wrist. You can have my Evoluent mouse when you pry it from my cold dead vertically [...]

It’s a PC Case, It’s an Aquarium

Friday, December 5th, 2003 at 10:38 pm

It’s a PC case, it’s a plastic fish aquarium! For the nature lover in you…
PCs with transparent acrylic sidedoors and cathode tube lighting mods ‘taint my cup of tea, but what would really be impressive is if the water used to float the fish was also part of an elaborate cpu water-cooling system that helped [...]

Ultraquiet Meltdown

Tuesday, May 20th, 2003 at 11:46 pm

My homebrewed ultraquiet pc’s powersupply had a meltdown over the weekend due to the heat. Following advice from silentpcreview, I got the machine noise down to around 20db, which is the equivalent of someone whispering from five feet away. The box was actually quieter than my Powerbook at this point. But five months later, Summer [...]

My IPod

Friday, May 9th, 2003 at 10:41 am

I picked up one of the new Ipods last week while we were waiting for Kai to get out of the hospital. It is my first one and I heart it very much. It’s completely changed the relationship I have with the music I own. I have most of my music on there (I have [...]

Dyson Sucks Tremendously

Sunday, April 13th, 2003 at 10:42 pm

Who’d have thought you could get excited over a vacuum cleaner? We bought a Dyson over the weekend and I am utterly impressed with its utility, usability and industrial design. It sucks tremendously! The placement of things on the machine is intuitive, the tools are easy to get to, and it is very quiet for [...]

Durable GoBook Max

Sunday, March 23rd, 2003 at 2:45 pm

One of the laptops models apparently being used in the field during this campaign sounds incredibly durable. Itronix, the makers of the GoBook Max list their testing methods in its brochure: “We drop each one 54 times from one meter, bake it in an oven, chill it in a freezer, vibrate it, and submit it [...]

Battery Powered

Wednesday, February 26th, 2003 at 7:36 pm

I think the Japanese predilection for USB-powered devices is a bit much. In older news, Americans are just as obsessed with masturbatriates, in this case the Apple inspired iBrator. Watch the 1984 parody for a bit of fun.

The Big Switch All Over Again

Monday, November 25th, 2002 at 10:46 pm

Well, I’ve had what can be best described as a bit of a geek out this weekend. You see, on Saturday I went to the Palo Alto store and picked up my shiny new Powerbook G4. I’ve been using it all weekend, and all I can say right now is: Aww Yeahhh!

Powerbooks Updated

Wednesday, November 6th, 2002 at 11:28 pm

The sources at ThinkSecret were correct: the newly updated PowerBooks arrived today. Everything previously mentioned except BlueTooth integration was announced. The delivery time for a PowerBook ordered today is three to four weeks. Ouch.

Powerbooks in a Week

Saturday, November 2nd, 2002 at 11:48 am

ThinkSecret says that updated Powerbooks will be forthcoming from Apple next week on November 6th (Ah Yeah). The new models should sport higher processor speeds, built-in Bluetooth, and an updated video sub-system. The original rollout was supposed to be a day earlier on the 5th, but since that is Election Day in the U.S., it [...]

Sony’s iBook Clone

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2002 at 7:10 pm

An iBook clone from Sony that
is purportedly a smashing success in Japan. More good reasons to wait if
you’re in the market for a laptop.
I was very close to being another switcher (Jen and I were in the Apple
store and had all but walked up to the counter to plunk down our [...]
