Anatomy of a Mavericks’ Wave
Tuesday, February 7th, 2006 at 8:37 pm
Maverick’s reef looks like a staircase or wedge, with rising steps of stone that urge incoming swells to launch skyward. Anyone who has ever gone into the water up here in NorCal understands what it’s like: _cold_. Like getting-your-nipple-pierced cold. Only until you travel south of Santa Barbara does the Pacific current bifurcate; SoCal gets [...]
Winning Ugly
Tuesday, October 25th, 2005 at 12:22 am
I’m a Cubs fan, but mad Chicago transplant shout-outs to the south-siders. The Sox are two games away from winning the _World Series_ (to steal a funny line from the Blue: it’s called the World Series of course because Canada plays too).
Do us all a favor: don’t fsck it up. After the Cubbies in [...]
Last One Across the Finish Line Buys A Round For Everybody
Friday, September 16th, 2005 at 2:53 pm
I ran the this 5k race at Crissy Field in San Francisco a couple of days ago. It was absolutely beautiful weather that day: the sun was slowly going down over the outline of the Golden Gate bridge, there was a great looking crowd and it was just really fun to be there.
Unfortunately, I [...]

Cubs Lose
Wednesday, October 15th, 2003 at 9:39 pm
Cubs Lose! There are many sad Chicagoans and Cubs fans all over the country this evening. While the loss certainly hurts, it’s not quite the same as being 6 outs away from winning the World Series, but losing two straight games like the Giants did last year to the Angels. Maybe next year.
One need only [...]
Cubs Win!
Sunday, October 5th, 2003 at 8:55 pm
Cubs Win! Damn I wish I was back in my old apartment on Halsted in Wrigleyville. The street party would have been a blast. The only sad thing is that the Giants blew it this year. That would have been a great series.
Cubs Magic Number Is 5
Wednesday, September 24th, 2003 at 12:30 am
Holy Cow. The Cubs are currently in first place. Their magic number is 5. The last time they won the NL Central division I think I was a Freshman in high school. That’s 1984 folks. Go Cubbies!
In the meantime, the A’s clinched their division today, while the Giants won theirs last week. It’s such [...]
The Sport of Cup Stacking

Have you ever heard of the sport of Cup Stacking? Neither did I. It’s cool to watch though.
World Cup Fever
Friday, June 21st, 2002 at 2:17 am
The World Cup takes on a completely different feeling when you work for a European company. They’ve been replaying various matches on ESPN2 in the cantina during lunchtime, which is interesting and quite fun. The media center on campus will be open this morning at 4:30am for the Germany/US match. If the US wins however, [...]
